This day has been a long time coming. The construction of the new parking lot at Blankets Creek has been completed! The official ribbon cutting ceremony was held on June 25th.
Current and former Cherokee County Commissioners, the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, Cherokee Recreation and Parks Authority, Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services and of course SORBA Woodstock members were all in attendance.
Our chapter president Jay Wilkes spoke on behalf of the club and County Commission Chairman Buzz Ahrens cut the ribbon.
The fire department showcased their new rescue equipment which includes a fire rescue boat and ATV with a patient transport trailer. Cherokee County Field Operations Chief, Greg Erdely, spoke about how the collaboration between the county and SORBA Woodstock on the marker system along with the new equipment is making a huge difference. Anyone who serves on our Bike Patrol would certainly agree.
New amenities include bathroom facilities with chilled water fountains, pavilions, a festival lawn and bike wash station. We also have double the parking spaces as before!
We can't begin to thank the county and the citizens of Cherokee County enough for this massive improvement to the park. Also a special shout out to John Hicks for his work on behalf on our chapter to make this happen, to Gary Moore and Jay Wilkes for attending all those construction meetings and to Scott Gordon for the design of the new lot.
