Flagler Area Biking has been busy! During the last few months they've signed an MOU with a state park, officially incorporated two trails into our SORBA chapter, been approved to build a jump park and skills area at Chuck Lennon Park, and hosted a very successful race that brought roadies and mountain bikers together, and they have been awarded Florida's Off-Road Bicycle Club of the Year!
Blue Spring State Park, one of the top parks in the state, has signed an MOU to create an mtb trail that will offer visitors more to do in their park.
Chuck Lennon Park Trail was a very hard trail to ever get approved in Volusia County, but now that they have seen how biking is changing the park in a good way, they are more open to new things. Thus, they have approved and helped fund a kids/beginners skills area, an advanced skills/jump area, and more technical trails.
The chapter hosted the inaugural 6 Legged Monster Bike Race, which had six different legs of racing. Three legs of mountain biking for 17 miles, and three legs of road bike for 53 miles, for a grand total of 70 miles. Racers could do it solo or in two-person teams. This event helped to bring the two worlds of biking together for one day of fun.
And in June the chapter received a letter saying that our club had been selected as Florida's Off-Road Bicycle Club of the Year by the Florida Bicycle Association. They award this to organizations for their efforts and achievements that help inspire and support people and communities to enjoy greater freedom and wellbeing through bicycling. The official award presentation date has not yet been set.
