How do you triple your chapter membership in one week? You partner with JCB Inc. – the largest construction and agricultural equipment manufacturer in the world and third-largest in the United States. JCB was hosting the 2014 Mud Run June 21, and five weeks out they decided to add the Dig the Ride mountain bike race and ride! It wasn't a problem to them that they had no trail on which to hold a mounatin bike race; SEGA-SORBA and JCB built a 5-mile trail in two weeks!
About 120 participants registered, with most of them opting to become SEGA members. Of course there was a little incentive; a deeply discounted entry fee for becoming a member – brilliant!
JCB went all-out in support of the event with a live band, food and beer, and all kinds of activities for kids. SEGA-SORBA did an excellent job of putting this event together in only five weeks. Mark Prince, SEGA-SORBA President, lead the effort, and the volunteers covered all the details, so the ride went off flawlessly. Look forward to this event in the future.
JCB Inc. is based in the UK, and is by appointment Her Majesty the Queen's manufacturer of heavy equipment. That explains the exceptional event that they put on. JCB Inc. wants to explore the possibility of providing a first-class mountain bike trail system on their property for the public. Hopefully, this will be the start of a beautiful relationship between JCB Inc. and SEGA-SORBA.
