Charleston Park.... open???

That's what we're here for.

Charleston Park.... open???

Postby 56cbr600rr » Thu Sep 06, 2012 2:00 pm

I just moved to Mcfarland off of 400 and was told that a Charleston Park would be open in August. Is this true? Can I ride their?

If not where else is decent? Only other place I know is Big Creek.

Thanks!

Charleston is not completed yet. The trail is 100% cut but not finished yet.
We are still waiting on the county to build us a parking lot and bridge. Our next work party is 9/29 at 9am. After the work party we will have a group ride and lunch.

Any updates on whether Charleston Park is officially open?
Is night riding allowed?

Thanks!

Went and rode anyway even though there are still signs that say it is not.
Pretty nice area. Ran 3 laps around - 2 clockwise and 1 counter clockwise.
Preferred clockwise.
Felt like there were some places built to penalize 29ers :-( but still fun.

Yes, nice work to the folks that have been out there working on the trails. Sorry I missed the work party two weeks ago. THis is going to be a great place for a quick afternoon workout close to home. Any thoughts on when the official opening will be?

This was discussed briefly at the last RAMBO meeting, so I'll regurgitate what I remember - It's not officially open until a new bridge and parking area is built. The concern is that this parking area is primarily boater's parking, that there won't be enough room during peak season. I suspect you'll see something more official. They are letting folks ride after work parties, though.

Tweety has it right; a new, wider bridge has to go in so emergency services can get a Gator onto the trail and more parking built so as to avoid any conflict with the park's original users, the boaters. That said, it appears that low-key small scale poaching is being tolerated by the County.
