Damn dude, I'm in the area and will keep an eye out.

If you want to cast the net farther, hop on Facebook and post in some of the cycling groups on there - Critical Mass Atlanta, I Bike ATL, Midnight Full Moon Ride, etc.

Wow, seems like I hear about 1-2 bikes a year getting returned to their owners. Glad to hear the good news!

So here is the story - I posted a pic on the MTBR Salsa forum and someone immediately posted that they thought they saw someone looking "fishy" riding it near Dekalb Ave and Boulevard. I made a flyer with a reward for the return and posted them in about fifteen businesses in that general area. I hit the local bike shops, SOPO and a pawn shop and spread it all over Facebook. I also flagged down a couple cops in the area to ask them to look for it. The next day, I get a call from a guy that tells me he bought it for $50, saw my flyer and wanted to get it back to me. He sounded legit so I arranged to meet him at Edgewood Pizza last night, grabbing a friend to join me just to be safe. Thankfully, a cop was sitting in his patrol car across the street when I arrived, I told him what I was doing and asked him to stick around. He did and the guy came around the corner with my bike. I gave him $100 and took it back. I don't think the guy who had the bike stole it but who knows? He called me with his cell phone and did not bat an eye when he saw me standing next to a police car. I did not ask any questions, I just wanted the bike and wanted to get out of there quickly. I am still shocked I got it back and will enjoy the hell out of my next ride!

Glad you got it back.

The dude you bought it from knowingly paid some crackhead $50 for a stolen bike, then turned a profit on it. If he really just wanted to get it back to you he should have done it for what he paid.

Yeah, but good Samaritans deserve some love too.

I'm impressed your story worked out so well. Crack is Wack!

To be fair, a reward of $100 was in fact offered. He could have easily taken the entire $100 and said "that dude over there is selling it for $50." Maybe in that scenario the crackhead gets punished, but OP still paid $100 to get his bike back and buyer still profits...
