Introducing Georgia High School Cycling League

Imagine high school mountain biking as a letter sport.....just let that sink in a minute.

That is exactly what the aim of the Georgia High School Cycling League is, to bring mountain biking to high school students as a scholastic sport. GHSCL is the newest addition to the national movement to bring this concept to reality from coast to coast: http://www.nationalmtb.org Tennessee currently has a league and had their first race last weekend: http://www.tennesseemtb.org/

Racing in Georgia will begin in 2014 with 4 student only events (venues TBA). The courses and overall events will have a focus on fun and safety for all those involved. No one sits the bench in this sport. We are currently seeking students and coaches, so if you are interested in participating please reach out to us here, through the website: http://georgiamtb.org/ or through social media:

We are also seeking opportunities to screen Singletrack High: http://vimeo.com/45295483, which is a movie highlighting the high school mountain biking movement is all about and what the Georgia League could become with your help. If you know of an opportunity to show this movie to an audience large or small please reach out to us. This could be in a theater, school, place of business, or outdoors. We'll as creative as needed.

Thanks and I hope you'll get involved,

Try to get in touch with the Plaza Theater for screening SingleTrack High. They used to be really friendly to things like this but that was back when they were a nonprofit, not sure how the new for-profit owners treat community partnerships.

Once you've got some teams set up, I'd be glad to open Sopo Bikes up for some maintenance days or maintenance classes so these kids can learn to repair their own bikes. I can even try to bring out some of the high school aged volunteers so they can learn from peers rather than from adults.

After seeing this post last year I asked my son if he'd be interested in racing when he enters high school this fall and he said yes. So I went to the georgiamtb.org site, filled out their contact info and registered as a volunteer and haven't heard or received a thing.

I had completely forgotten about it until we were working on our bikes last weekend and my son asked me if I had heard anything about the high school races.

Anyone else tried contacting georgiamtb, if so did you get a response? Looks like the site has changed some from last year so that would indicate that it's at least being monitored.

thanks

Sorry, I missed the response here (notification went to spam, but that's fixed). We are moving forward with the league, recruiting coaches and volunteers and getting them trained and we will have races next fall. We have had a few missteps in communication and I apologize for that. You can reach me (eddie@55nine.com) or the league president directly (dan@georgiamtb.org).
