I'm pinging you N.GAians to see if you think a day trip tomorrow to Pinhotis 1-3 would be advisable given whatever the weather did up there Saturday. What say ye?

Was up there yesterday. Some muddy spots, lots of leaves down. Trails are great....go ride and stop by Mulberry Gap for some awesome chili, showers, and great atmosphere!

The Pinhoti trails are in great shape. Bear Creek is in good condition too. There was one tree down on P1, and two down on P2. One of the trees down on P2 is a carry over, but the other two are hoppable!

I second emzee's suggestion of stopping in at Mulberry Gap. A hot shower after the ride is priceless! They will take good care of you there!!!

If I were to do Bear Creek and Ps 1-3 as an out 'n' back, what would the mileage be?

I'm not exactly sure. I want to say around 30 miles.

Closer to 40, if you're parking at Gates Chapel, climbing Bear to the overlook, then back down to P1, etc. Conasauga to Shakerag road is the shorter way back after either P2 or 3.

I made it out to the Pinhotis 1-3 last Tuesday. True enough, an out and back of all three sections and three hours was not happening. Would have been more like 4. I rode 3 out and back at the end and looped back to the car on Shakerag/Gates Chapel. That whole trip was 2:45 or so (2:55 if you count the ten minuted I spent fixing a flat at the end of Pinhoti 2 :D ).

It was good stuff. The incredible amount of leaf litter made the descents pretty hairy in terms of traction. I had a good time.
