McIntosh reserve Carroll county/whitesburg

Me and the kids decided to give windridge a break and hit McIntosh for the first time this year, thought I'd give the people that like rocky, rooty, rutted trails an update.

With all of the new areas around here for horses to ride, it appears the park doesn't get as many horseback riders as it used to. We went out there 3 times this week and didn't see a horse on the trails, there were a couple out there but they were riding in the big fields.

There has been some sanitizing of the trails but fortunately there are still plenty of rocky, rooty, rutted sections to keep us on our toes.

I think the outer loop is around 7 miles with plenty of inner loop trails to add mileage. My 12 yo had no problem doing the entire outer loop and going back to hit a couple of the better downhill sections for good measure.

There are a ton of drop opportunities off of the rocks by the river. My son had an audience watching him before he got tired and wanted to go swimming.

Oh yeah, it's still $2 to ride but you get a cool new map and all the horse poop you can pick out of your teeth for that price.

Here's a few pics

don't worry helmet police he used it doing the bigger drops, unfortunately my photography skills don't match his riding skills so none of those came out

Great caption of snake eating fish!

This is the venue where I won my first race as part of GAP series. Still use the prize - the bicycle seat.

Ha! I'm wearing my shirt from the 3rd Annual Dreamcatcher right now; not sure what year that was guessing 2000ish (?) Not one of my favorite race courses simply because there wasn't much climbing, but a fun place to race. Glad to hear it's still riding.

Cool! Glad you guys had fun there. I rode there this past winter with my brother and my dad. Definitely an old-school trail. It was popular in the mid 2000's and I remember it getting super rutted in the span of about two years and then everybody quit riding it, both bike and horse. With the decreased traffic, it appears to be more or less at equlibrium now. When we rode there it was in the mid 30's and the lady at the gate was very concerned about whether we'd be safe riding in such cold temperatures. My dad ate it on the first descent and we missed a few turns but otherwise we had a really good time.
