GEORGIA HUNTING and it's impact on cycling

Updated to make this thread more generic.

The Wildlife Management Area (WMA) system encompasses nearly one million acres on 90 tracts throughout Georgia. Most of these areas offer some form of access to cyclist. It's your responsibility to know regulations and access restriction before entering a WMA.

As a general rule there are two major rules that a apply to riding inside the hunting area.
1) No riding during firearms deer hunting season
2) No riding before 10am during archery hunting seasons and turkey seasons

I know these are the times and seasons for the WMA's does anybody have the dates for hunting on the national forest land not governed by the WMA?

ie. Bull, Bear Creek, Flat Stanley, Pinhotties?

The way it works here in GA is that the animals (even on NF lands) are managed by DNR via WMA's. I listed only those WMA's that have bicycle restrictions during hunting season. As for the P's/Bear Creek area, they're part of the Cohutta WMA which is part of the larger Chattahoochee NF. Cohutta WMA has no restrictions on cyclist.

No time restrictions on NF, but I would probably go with the 10 AM rule.

We need a two week Squirrel season for blankets creek! I was almost taken out AGAIN the other day. I'll volunteer to take out a few hundred my self, and I'm not a big hunter....I can make an exception in this case.

Allatoona WMA small game dates are Aug. 15–Sept. 10, Dec. 6–25 and Jan. 2–Feb. 28. You'll only be allowed to blow away 12/day though, so with 47 days left in the squirrel season you'll only be able to bag 564 of the 1.2 billion. Might I recommend starting in my front yard?

I hit one on my bike a few weeks ago. He tried to jump across the trail when I was there. I didn't run over him though so he stumbled off.

Sticky has been updated w/ 2011-2012 dates.

Again I've only listed those WMA's with bicycle restrictions during hunting season but it's probably best to wait until 10am to ride anywhere (including indoor trainers) during hunting season.
