Extending the one-way ride directions at Chickopee?

Postby mnigro » Thu Sep 23, 2010 9:17 am

Would people be supportive or not in regard to extending the one-way riding at Chickopee to the other trails in the system.

I rode Flying Squirrel for the first time the other day. I loved the flow of that trail but it sucked to have to keep stopping to let others pass/pass them. Personally, it'd be nice to see the one-way riding rules exteded to the whole trail system.

What does everyone else think?

I don't think it's a good idea. Chicopee has multiple, multi-direction intersections. That would make directionality challenging. I can see making Outer Loop (or whatever they call it these days) uni-directional, but for the most part, it already is. I think if you look at the map of the trail, and try to make it directional, you'll see large amounts of trail that become excluded on any given day simply because you couldn't get to them without riding some section of trail the wrong direction...

+1 Tweety! also, Im pretty much forced to hit the trail on the same day of the week every time I'm out there, and it would get old to ALWAYS ride it in the same direction. :)

Flying Squirrel works well in either direction so that would be a hard sell. As Tweetie said, the outer loop works out best clockwise, though there are some who ride it "backwards."

Big thumbs down for the reasons already stated. Chicopee has so much mileage now that I find it pretty rare to run into folks going the opposite direction more than once or twice during a ride. Perhaps the weekends have been a little busier recently, but it can't be too bad.

Leave it as is. Nice to have a little variety and choice on how to ride.

It is good the way it is now. No need to fix what is not broken.

Wouldn't be bad idea on the weekends, simply for safety's sake. I've had a couple near misses on flying squirrel and copperhead

I like the ringing the bell idea. It would be a better idea in my opinion to prohibit headphones on the 2-way trails. There are a lot of blind spots on not just the Squirrel but mainly on Copperhead and with both trails being so fast and flowey (sp), I find myself having to call out just to be safe and listen for leaves, chain rattle, etc. If you have to listen to your Lady Gaga then why not just go to the Silver Comet to get your workout in.
I ride Chicopee a few times a week on average and as nice as it is, it does get routine if riding in the same direction all the time.

Keep it as is only no headphones. Enjoy actually being unplugged and outdoors and riding your own little personal roller coaster.
