Work party at the Beach 6/10/2010

Just a small work party to tidy things up before it get real hot.

When: Thursday June 10 2010.from 1pm- 7 pm (come by and lend a hand after work)
Where: The Trails at Atlanta Beach of Hwy 138 in Jonesboro Ga.
Why Routine work and if enough people show up we will reroute two sections suffering from erosion.

Bring water and gloves and if you have any, a shovel or hard rake.

Beach Update: We completed the two short reroutes for erosion purposes today. I need to get back out and remove a large tree that has been down on the south end of the cell tower loop. The bridges that allowed for a smooth crossing rotted out and have been removed. I will also remove a couple more trees at the same time. If somebody wants a project and owns a blower, the whole trail could use some de-breading.

how many miles is that trail? what levels of difficulty are there? are there any maps of the trail online? and, what's the cost to enter the complex?

Trail is ~6.5 mile long with about 650 feet of climb. I would rate it low intermediate (Huff n Puff with some double track and open field sections). I will post an updated map in the next couple of days.

Signage is for the most part missing due to vandals. I am working with park management on new signage.

There is no cost for park entry most of the year.

SORBA Atlanta will likely hold our August meeting at the Beach...stay tuned. We'll do a group ride / cookout just like our July meeting at Sope Creek on July 12.

The Beaches recreational complex is located in Clayton Co, on Hwy 138 about 2.5 miles west of I 75.
The Beaches Trail is ~ 6.5 miles long (7 miles with the mapped road section in the bike lane)
and has 650 feet of climb. Trail is ridden both directions, but is maintained for CCW traffic.
As always ride within your abilities, watch for traffic and helmet use is required.

I have completed a couple small reroutes and extensions in the last year, 2.5 more miles in trail has been mapped out, but need local help to build it. I hope to build atleast 1.5 miles of it this winter.
