Trail length at Sope

Postby sdreiske » Wed Jun 01, 2011 9:40 pm

What is the distance from the Sope Creek parking lot to the gravel walking loop? 2 miles? I looked at the trail map that I saw linked here and it is measured in feet and well...math is hard. Also, thanks for all of the work you guys have done out there!

Yeah but then I have to measure squiggly lines and hope I'm kinda accurate. I know someone can tell me the exact length. BUT THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT SMARTYPANTS!

Sonya

My last track out there (here) shows about 2.25 miles from the top of the parking lot on Paper Mill to where the trail meets up with gravel. Granted, I'm still getting used to the Garmin so I may not have it set the most accurately in the world but that should give you a decent ball park.

Grog's estimate is pretty good. It's about 5 miles out and back from the Paper Mill parking lot and back. Give or take a squiggly line or two. :-)

I know it's broken up with a short downhill or two, but do you think that Sope is the longest off-road climb in metro Atlanta? Know of a longer one or one with more sustained elevation gain? N GA mountains not included. Thanks!

Which climb? From the gravel up?

Yes, gravel to pond. I know it's not 100% climbing, but I don't think there is a 2-mile off-road elevation profile in metro Atlanta with more climbing. Any idea?

2.25 mi? I've got an 18mi loop out there.

clearly it's entirely too technical...
