Woody Keene to do trail demo at Tsali April 15 & 16

Postby SAMBO » Mon Mar 21, 2011 6:48 pm

As you may know, we have the world renown Woody Keen from Trail
Dynamics coming to Tsali on April 15th and 16th. His mission is
simple: Teach us how to build trails. (Sounds simple, right?)
Here is the run down of the weekend, as Woody suggests:
Tsali Outdoor Trails Education
April 15-16, 2011
Bryson City, NC
This is a special opportunity to learn from the pros how to properly
build drainage structures and what can be done to improve trails on
old roadbeds.
Friday, April 15, 1:00-6:00 pm
Building Better Drainage Structures
Meet at the trailhead, bring your bike and helmet. We will ride
through an exiting drainage structure, put our bikes down, build a
rolling grade dip and then test ride it to understand what works best
for a mountain bike rider.
Saturday, April 16, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Road To Trail Conversion Demo
Meet at the trailhead for a day focused on converting exiting trail
located on old roadbeds to a sustainable singletrack trail. This will
be a hybrid trail project demonstration using professional machine
operation and volunteer hand tool work.
Please bring a helmet, gloves, safety glasses, boots and water. You
also need to bring your own lunch on Saturday. Bikes will be used on
Friday.
Thanks to Trail Dynamics for their donation of time and equipment and
the Forest Service for the partnership opportunity for trails
education and outreach.
This is a very similar course to what Woody just taught in Asheville
at the Trails Conference last week. Some of the folks who went to the
conference came to the shop and gave it raving reviews. Woody is a
master of the dirt.
Come out and lend a hand and learn very usable skills about making new
trails.
