I got an email on this this morning - apparently, this is in response to the user complaints about the trail. "Gwinnett is aware that the trail system is less-than-ideal now (understatement). They have hired a trail specialist to do an assessment and make recommendations to bring the trails back to "fun". " So, if you ride YR, and don't like what it's become, now is your chance to influence the outcome....

Postby mcombs77 » Mon May 07, 2012 12:12 pm

WHAT
• Public input meeting to express ideas for improving the trail system at Yellow River Park.

• Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 6:30 p.m.
WHERE
• Mountain Park Activity Building, 1063 Rockbridge Road, Stone Mountain 30087.
WHY
• Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation has contracted with Foresite Group and Trail Dynamics to create the Yellow River Park Trail Sustainability Assessment and Redevelopment Plan. So they know at this point that this meeting was due BEFORE they created this mess?

Woj, pretty funny idea, having the meeting before the trail work...

Right now, I think the trails at YR are real good. I suspect that this initiative is more likely to make YR trails worse than better. Note the comment about 'all user groups' (i.e., not MTB).

There is a problem at YR with networked trails, poor signage, and no good maps. This could be solved inexpensively with maps and markers.

The notice also said something about sustainability...

Given the sweat equity SORBA has in YR, I sure hope they give us a place at the table.

Yeah, asphalt, just what we need...

At least one of the companies mentioned has specifcally mentions building MTB trails. That's hopeful.

It'd be great to hear from one of the GATRs about this.

There is no plan at this point for Yellow River other than it needs help. GCPR has contracted with Trail Dynamics to make a proposed plan. This an opportunity for us to ask for what we want out of the new plan.

Any progress or consideration of progress is a good thing. I gave up riding YR a while back but used to go there semi-regularly.

If they truly want to FIX it, this is good news!

Does anyone know what problems they're hoping to fix? It seems to me all it needs is some signage...I don't know why they'd want to bring in a trail building company...it'd be hard to put more miles out there without creating a zillion more intersections...

They should call it "The Maze" and announce The Scavenger Hunt.
