42 tooth rear? Holy crap.

Also with the XX designation, this screams to me "$300 cassette" like the current XX. Been there, done that, and I'm choosing to gain a few grams and run X9 level cassettes where the 36 gear isn't disposable.

The whole "1x10" craze has me thinking 1x10 on a 28 front ring, but I have to say that I really like having the 39 or 26 in the 2x10 setup. If it's a particularly hilly area, I can just leave it in the 26 ring in the front the whole time, and for flat stuff, just HTFU and big ring it.

got to peek at one recently at the shop for a sram enduro racer. It makes total sense for someone RACING super d and hardcore enduro racing. By the time it comes to the masses it will be well refined to probably fit a market but only time will tell

I think I just found my drivetrain upgrade:

The freehub is a disappointment though. Biggest downside IMO.

Looks like it's shipping in late November. Tom, you guessed low on the cassette:

Got to ride this at Interbike. Very impressive and super quite. Did not drop the chain once. It was the first bike I rode and every bike after that pretty much sucked drivetrain wise. Although I could not find a hill steep enough to where I needed the 42t cog I found the range to be enough (had a 30t in the front). Gotta have it!!! Cassette price is in line with XX (that is the only thing that sucks. Gotta wonder if this will trickle down to X0 and X9).

I'm not buying that the range is enough with a 30T up front. I spin out on a 32:11 on many down hills. I'd want bigger than that up front, and I'm not sure that would work with the 42 in the back to get low enough on the climbs. I think the 2x10 is probably the minimum for an all mountain or race setup, at least for most mortals.
