Subaru Tour de SORBA 2012 Grand Prize Winner

Jack Peugh won the 2012 Subaru Tour de SORBAWe congratulate Jack Peugh of Power Springs, GA as the winner of the 2012 Subaru Tour de SORBA contest. Jack is the new owner of a Trek Sawyer mountain bike. He was thrilled to win the bike, and can't wait to see how it handles the trails at Allatoona Creek near his home.

Southern Mountain Bike Summit Returns March 22nd-24th

Join your mountain biking friends and fellow advocates at the second Southern Mountain Bike Summit, March 22nd-24th, 2013 in Woodstock, GA. Woodstock’s City Center, including the Elm Street Theater, will house Summit meetings, and the Taylor Randahl Memorial Trails at Rope Mill Park and the Blankets Creek Trails at Lake Allatoona will be the trails of choice for riding on Friday and Saturday.

Be Active in the Forest, Participate in CoTrails!

Want to make a difference in the Chattahoochee National Forest? Become active in CoTrails and attend the 2013 kick-off meeting on Saturday, January 26 at the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area's Island Ford Visitors Center. You'll hear updates on the work they've done to date, participate in workshops, and help set the 2013 agenda to continue to achieve the objectives set out in the CoTrails Strategic Plan.

Bear Creek-Pinhoti Mega Work Party March 9

What better way to spend a day than in the forest, working on and riding your favorite trails? Join the Ellijay Mountain Bike Association (EMBA) as they host a Mega trail work party in the Chattahoochee National Forest on the Bear Creek and Pinhoti 1 & 2 sections of trails in North Georgia, near Ellijay. From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m on March 9th, 2013, we'll be doing much-needed maintenance, then we'll treat ourselves to a ride afterward to enjoy the fruits of our labor.

Here’s a sampling of the great work SORBA’s chapters accomplished this past year.

CAMP

  • Became an IMBA Chapter with over 100 members
  • Constructed 15 miles of single track
  • Constructed a 90'L X 8'W X 10'T wooden bridge
  • Constructed a beginner-level pump track
  • Received two RTP grants totaling $137,000 for tools, 10-12 miles of additional flow trails, bathrooms, changing stations, showers, & bike wash stations

SORBA Athens

Upstate SORBA Receives $10,000 REI Grant

Upstate SORBA (US) received a grant of $10,000 from REI’s Greenville store on Woodruff Road to support three trail projects; the expansion of the mountain bike trail system at Paris Mountain State Park (PMSP) and along the Reedy River Corridor in downtown Greenville, SC, and to  develop new trail at Pleasant Ridge County Park.  US will team up with REI, local government and thier dedicated volunteers for the three projects.

Alabama Trails Conference to be Nov. 1-2 in Jacksonville, AL

Get a foot up on some of Alabama’s top trails and their evolution during the second Alabama Trails Conference Nov. 1-2 at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville.

“Dream, Plan, Build,” a two-day conference at the university’s Houston Cole Library, will include programs involving some of Alabama’s top trail planners, designers and builders and how they are helping make the state one of the premier destination for trail enthusiasts whether they prefer peddling, paddling, throttling or trekking.

IMBA and SORBA Board of Directors Convene in Gainesville, GA

The Board of Directors Meetings for the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) and the Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association (SORBA) will be in Gainesville, GA on November 9th and 10th at the Elachee Science Nature Center. IMBA’s Board chose Gainesville as their meeting site in recognition of the contributions that the Southeastern Region has made to mountain bicycling advocacy.
