GATR Recognized at Harbins Park Ground Breaking Ceremony

Tuesday, February 05, 2008, Dacula, GA; Gwinnett Area Trail Riders ( GATR ) were among the park advocacy groups recognized at this historic groundbreaking of what will become Gwinnett county’s largest park. The 1900 acre facility will feature green space, open fields, pedestrian trials, equestrian trails, mixed use trails, and 8+ miles of pristine mountain bike single track. Construction at Harbins Park is slated to begin Fall 08 and GATR will play a significant role in trail construction through member volunteer efforts
This involvement indicates a recently established and mutually beneficial working partnership between Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation and the GATR chapter of SORBA. It was just a few short years ago when both Yellow River and Tribble Mill Parks were in jeopardy of losing valuable mountain bike trails before the GATR chapter was founded and began its diligent efforts to forge a positive relationship with the county’s park management authority. In a conversation today with Sharon Plunkett, Division Director - Operations, of GCPR today she stated: “we’re looking forward to building these trails with GATR over the upcoming months, Gwinnett residents will surely benefit from them”.
