Bull and Jake Mountain Mega Work Party August 6th

IMBA-SORBA and the Chattahoochee Trail Horse Association are hosting a trail work party at the Jake & Bull Mountain trail system in North Georgia, near Dahlonega. Over the past four years the U.S Forest Service, CTHA, and IMBA-SORBA have partnered to upgrade and improve this IMBA Epic Ride. Much work has been done, but we need volunteers to jump in and do the finish work on the latest piece of trail construction. Come join us for a day, and enjoy volunteering in one of our nation’s greatest treasures, the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest.

Saturday, August 6

  • 8:30 – 9:00 Welcome & Sign-In
  • 9:00 – 1:00 Trail Work Party @ Jake Mtn Trailhead
  • 1:00 – 2:00 Lunch
  • 2:00 Free Prize Raffle for Volunteers

Meet at the Jake Mountain trailhead parking lot, 1600 Nimblewill Church Road. This work party will focus on finishing the newly constructed sections of the Jake Mountain (223H) trail. The basic finishing steps are:

  • blending the backslope
  • disperse excess soil
  • compact the trail tread
  • cover exposed soil with leaves.

More information about how to perform each step can be found in  Trail Solutions: IMBA's Guide to Building Sweet Singletrack, pages 145-147.

No experience is required to volunteer. Eat a good breakfast on Saturday before you get to the work party. SORBA and CTHA will provide lunch, if you register online in advance. Only those who register are guaranteed a lunch. Online registration closes on Wednesday, August 3 at 11:59 PM.

Please bring a hard hat or helmet (bike or riding), gloves, water, and a snack. Dress for working outdoors safely under the prevailing weather conditions. Stinging insects are active at this time of year, so if you have a severe allergic reaction to stings, please bring your Epi-Pen or other device.
