"The Southern Mountain Bike Summit is a not-to-be-missed event. Nowhere else will you see such a passionate group of mountain bikers in the Southeast meet and accomplish so much. And, you get to ride your bike on the finest trails in the Southeast!

NEW - The Summit has been expanded to offer more educational programs!

Thursday, March 22 - "Strategic Planning for Great Mountain Bike Trails" - 6 hours - "How to use the public planning process to ensure successful development of high quality mountain bike trail opportunities.Today's mountain bike trail projects are growing in size and complexity, they require more resources than willing backs and hands swinging tools to achieve success. To leverage the needed resources, an understanding of how mountain bike trail projects fit into the larger public planning process is required.  In this workshop IMBA Trail Solutions staff will provide an overview of the trail development timeline; reviewing obstacles, challenges, and needed actions at different points in the process. Attendees will obtain a better understanding of the Planning/Design/Build/Manage workflow and how to lay the groundwork through planning to achieve success with turning large projects into reality.  The afternoon session will travel to a local trail system to practice assessment in regards to experience goals. Specific design/sustainability issues will not be discussed. The goal is to discuss the trails in a broad sense; how they fit into the larger community and what experiences are offered versus which ones are absent.

Friday, March 23 - Land Manager Day includes the two-hour "Guidelines to Quality Trail Experiences" presentation by IMBA Trail Solutions. "Quality is difficult to define but easy to recognize when a trail design merges with the desired outcomes. Good trail design ultimately protects resources while simultaneously providing riders with the outcomes they seek." Often times riders describe trails in terms land managers may not understand. The trail experiences sought by riders may, at first, appear to conflict with land management goals. Over the past 5 years IMBA Trail Solutions staff, in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management, helped create the Guidelines to Quality Trail Experiences (GQTE) book published in 2017Trail Solutions staff will use GTQE as a base, helping to unravel these apparent disconnects while fostering more positive relationships between land managers and riders ensuring relevant recreational opportunities are realized on public lands.
And there will be break out sessions, and programs designed specifically for land managers and a guided ride in the afternoon followed by a social in the evening.

Saturday, March 24 - Advocates Day includes break out sessions, presentations, SORBA Board of Directors Meeting, afternoon ride and evening social.

All programs, classes and sessions are designed to meet the increasing demand from our chapters, land managers, and mountain bike communities for more and better trails!
