HAMR and Monte Sano State Park celebrated the grand opening of two new mountain bike only downhill flow trails – Bluebell Holler and Full Monte – this past weekend!  These trails, the first of their kind in the area, were built by Barry Smith Trails.  The Alabama State Parks Trail Crew (Dinnon Breazeale) built a brand new climbing return trail D Breaze Way just in time for the grand opening on Sunday, too!

Over 60 riders and officials turned up for the day, despite the threat of rain in the forecast, including people from as far away as Knoxville, Chattanooga, Atlanta, Birmingham, Scottsboro, etc. Will Collins and Dinnon from the AL Parks Crew, MSSP Manager Zach Heard, SORBA Executive Director Philip Darden and President Mary Anne Swanstrom, members of Barry Smith’s crew (Barry, Benny, and Wes), members of Boy Scout Troop 343 (who created the benches and sign for the trailhead), and sister chapter BUMP reps were all in attendance. Donovan Johnson did an excellent job teaching several riders on the trails throughout the morning!

HAMR thanks the state park, Barry Smith Trails, Athletic Brewing Co (Two for the Trails grant), Fox Factory (Trail Trust grant), IMBA and Shimano (Dig-In grant), and ALL donors and volunteers for making these trails possible and bringing some flow to the Huntsville area!
