The ribbon cutting and grand opening of the Rocky Face Ridge Park and Buzzard’s Roost Mountain Bike Trail in Dalton, Georgia, was held July 25, 2022. This project was supported by Whitfield County, the Historic Preservation Commission and NWGA SORBA. The 10.2-mile mountain bike trail is a great intermediate/expert experience with incredible views. Professional trail builder Barry Smith was hired to build the project.
In addition to having incredible mountain bike trails, this park is also a site of a Civil War battle and the history can be viewed on an interpretive trail leading out to the mountain bike loop. The county has built a nice parking area, restrooms and pavilions to complete the park and make it welcoming for individuals from all walks of life.
NW GA SORBA raised $100k and performed 1,000 volunteer hours along with a RTP grant for another $200k to build the trails. Small chapters can do great things!
