The Coldwater Mountain Fat Tire Festival in Anniston, Al was held October 22-24 and SORBA was on hand all weekend. The event featured group rides, time trial, funduro, poker run, camping, food, beer, and live music. NEABA took advantage of their two great trail systems, Coldwater Mountain and Ft McLellan, to give riders tons of options for rides. Weather couldn’t have been better that weekend, especially for an event that has been plagued with bad weather in the past.

Friday kicked off the event with a lead group ride on the Ft. McLellan trails. Originally designed to host NICA events, the trail system has grown to accommodate all types of riders. The latest addition to the trails features more elevation gain and loss with a really really sweet new decent. After the group ride pizza and beer were provided back in town and live music filled the night air.

Saturday saw group rides, a time trial at Ft McLellan and a funduro at Coldwater Mountain. Rides went out all day. The trailhead featured food trucks, music, shuttled gravity runs, and a vendor area where the SORBA tent was set up and we talked with riders from across the southeast. You could see the stoke in riders as they came back from their ride, refuel and head out for more.

Saturday night back in town riders were fed and provided plenty of beer from Black Warrior Brewing in Tuscaloosa, Al. Riders shared stories of their day with live music filling the city park. The good time vibes were certainly out in full force in Downtown Anniston!

Sunday brought groggy riders and tired legs back to the mountain for more. Todays main event, the poker run, saw many riders venture out on Coldwater Mountain to get as many stamps as possible to get the best hand. As the time began to wind and riders returned prizes were awarded for the poker run as well as door prizes to participants.

Make sure to add the Coldwater Mountain Fat Tire Festival to your calendar for next year with October 21-23, 2022 already on the calendar.
