SORBA begins 2021 with new leadership following the retirement of our former Executive Director, Tom Sauret. Terry Palmeri will be stepping up to the role of Executive Director and new hire, Philip Darden, will be filling the position of Associate Director. These two have great plans for SORBA moving forward and we are excited to see where their leadership will take us in the future.
Terry’s goals for SORBA moving forward are to “continue to find ways to improve support for SORBA’s 48 chapters with education, funding development, marketing, communications, and local, state and regional advocacy.” With her guidance, together we can make these goals a reality!
Philip adds to that sentiment with goals in helping to share SORBA’s story. “In the past we (SORBA) have not done a great job of sharing the story of what makes us an amazing organization. Our story is the story of our members; the individuals that volunteer their time on the local level to enhance the mountain bike experience. I want to use the skills I have gained to help bring to light the effort our volunteers put in.”
Although Tom is retiring, he isn’t going anywhere. He plans to continue on with SORBA as a volunteer. We are beyond thankful for the work Tom has done for us over the last 20 years. SORBA and mountain biking in the Southeast would not be where it is today without his leadership. When Tom began working for SORBA we had a few chapters in Georgia with 500 members. At the time of his retirement we now represent 7 states with 48 chapters and over 8,000 members. Thank you Tom and enjoy your retirement!
