The North Mississippi Trail Alliance is building some out of this world (sorry we couldn’t avoid the pun) trail at their site lovingly called Area 51. Chapter President and current SORBA President Mark Arcelle sent us some information about the project in partnership on land managed by the US Army Corps of Engineers.

Area51 is NMTA’s latest trail project located on MS State Highway 51 just south of Hernando, Mississippi. It’s an all volunteer trail project being developed in coordination with the US Army Corps of Engineers who manages the 1,000 acre parcel along the banks of Arkabutla Lake. NMTA are working closely with the North Mississippi Endurance trail runners club in order to expand our trail user base and with the trails close proximity to the Memphis Metro area and terrain that is unique to this location, we anticipate Area51 will become a local favorite for trail runners and mountain bikers alike. Our volunteer trail builders are proud of what we’ve accomplished so far, but with a 1,000 acres to work with, there’s a lot more to come. Check out trailforks.com for a detailed trail map and the NMTA group page on Facebook.
