The Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association (SORBA) is seeking a full-time Development Director to assume full responsibility for the development and implementation of an annual, short-term, and long-term development plan for the organization.

The ideal candidate will have exceptional interpersonal skills, a passion for the outdoor community and trail development, and a love for mountain biking and the outdoors. The candidate must be able to manage simultaneous projects and be able to foster coordination within the organization to meet development goals. Experience and skill in nonprofit development are essential to succeed in this position.

Primary Responsibilities & Duties:

  • After onboarding, the Development Director shall prepare and present the current year development plan.
  • At the beginning of each year, the Development Director is responsible for building the annual development plan alongside the Executive Director
  • Executes SORBA’s annual fundraising plan
  • Secure financial support from individuals, foundations, and corporations with an emphasis on a diverse range of revenue streams
  • Works with the executive team and volunteers to grow relationships with major gift donors
  • Assists in donor stewardship programs
  • Tracks and assesses fundraising and development metrics
  • Identifies and stewards’ prospective donors
  • Creates major gift proposal documents
  • Utilizes major giving fundraising and marketing tools, including on-line tools
  • Works collaboratively with SORBA Executive Director, SORBA Governance Committee, and volunteers
  • Seek out and apply for new grants that are well aligned with the mission and programs of SORBA.
  • Assist SORBA Chapters with grant opportunities
  • Assist in implementing large fundraising events
  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors
  • Compose a regular newsletter for donors that explain the progress of the organization and how we’ve been using their contribution
  • Overseeing organization of special events
  • Developing and tracking proposals and reports for fundraising
  • Participates in staff, team, program, and board meeting
  • Participates in annual planning efforts, including strategic and operational planning and budgeting
  • Seeks out and participates in professional development and training opportunities
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Job Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a development focused role for nonprofits
  • Extensive knowledge of fundraising strategies and principles
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Grant writing skills
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, with innovative approach to business development
  • The ability to demonstrate a history of excellence and measurable growth in nonprofit development
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to speak in front of large crowds and in small groups
  • Strong project management skills including the management of complex, multifaceted projects resulting in measurable success and development growth
  • Fluency in writing budgets in excel
  • Passion for the mission, vision, and values of SORBA
  • Commitment to community and trail development that is environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable
  • Strong self-motivation including the ability to work independently

 

Job Preferences:

  • Five or more years of experience in fundraising for a nonprofit organization is preferred
  • No degree is required for the position, but an education in nonprofit work is favorable. 
  • A passion for mountain biking is strongly preferred.

 

Required Working Conditions:

  • Remote work environment
  • Based within the SORBA Territory (Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee)
  • Have appropriate workspace and technology in their home office
  • Active participation in team meetings
