The McGee Lungbuster Fat Tire Festival, held in Ridgeland, MS, was on October 16th and SORBA was there! Hosted by our chapter Tri-County Mountain Bike Association, the McGee Lungbuster hosted an event filled Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday kicked the festival off with their first ever enduro race that featured 3 stages on the Ridgeland trails property. Now you might not think of elevation and Mississippi in the same sentence but know that the folks at Tri-County have made use of the elevation they have. The trail system is filled with well crafted berms, rollers, and rock gardens throughout, all of which were built by volunteers. The enduro participants were great and each rider was stoked about the trails!

After the enduro the festival began with food, music and plenty of beer. By purchasing a $20 or $40 cup you could partake in bottomless pours all weekend, with your choice of 6 craft beers. Food was provided by 2 local food trucks. Two different bands took the pavilion stage (again built and paid for by volunteers) with the Kudzu Kings headlining the event. As they played into the night people from all over the surrounding area showed up, mountain bikers or not.

The next morning set the stage for XC racing, with the CAT 3 race early, followed by the CAT 1,2 race after. The races were well attended and the competition was tight. Depending on your category, the length of the race varied. There was even a kids race for the little ones! Following the racing Tri County provided a baked potato bar with all the optional toppings. A great way to refuel after a tough race weekend.

If you’re looking for a great trail system in Mississippi look no further than the Ridgeland Trails. The Tri County Mountain Bike Association has done an incredible job with their trails and their dedication shows. From the very first berm you will be smiling the entire ride! Definitely a trail system to add to your next road trip!
