It is with heavy hearts that we remember Chris Hurst, a dedicated volunteer and instrumental figure in the history of our organization, who passed away suddenly on July 18th at the age of 58 while on a bicycle ride with friends.
Chris helped a fledgling Atlanta mountain biking club of a few hundred members transform into a regional, multi-state professional organization. His vision, dedication, and behind-the-scenes effort laid the foundation for the community we enjoy today.
“Because of Chris Hurst’s expertise and generous contribution of his own time, SORBA grew dramatically from a small Atlanta area mountain biking group. Not only did Chris participate in work parties, group rides, and festivals, he took the lead on making SORBA a 501c 3 nonprofit, devoting hours to complete the paperwork required. This made SORBA a true non-profit, and it was a vital step in SORBA’s growth and effectiveness. He was cheerful, energetic, and positive that SORBA could grow and succeed. I am so saddened to learn of his passing.”

A Lasting Legacy
A Celebration of Life was held in his honor on Sunday, August 1st, at Mayes Ward Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta, where family, friends, and fellow riders gathered to celebrate his impactful life and contributions.
