The refurbished final 1.5 miles of Schoolhouse Ridge Trail (TR 279) is now open. This trail, rated “most difficult,” follows the historic alignment in many places, including several steep, rocky sections.

Pisgah National Forest’s Grandfather District has recently released official news of Schoolhouse reopening, a priority piece of the Mortimer Trails Project. The work on this trail was funded by a North Carolina RTP grant from the 2018 cycle.

The Alliance would like to thank Lisa Jennings and the Grandfather District for the continued support as well as the many volunteers for their contributions to the project. We would also like to recognize High Country Conservation LLC and project lead Chase Tribble for the excellent contracted work.

Ride on!
